This was written 2/29/2020 for the Laureling ceremony for my friend, Duchess Lusche della Cassiago, which occurred later that day (yesterday, actually)… basically a commission to sing the admonishments as a group, given by Duke Morgan Olander to my Laurel, Mistress Orlaith Ballach ingen Fhlainn, which she then passed on to me, since I’m better at combat barding than she is. 😋 I asked if I could rewrite the words so they’d work better in a song and she told me to go for it.

I tried to craft a melody that sounded like those I’ve heard in wool waulking songs, though the structure of verse/chorus is more regular than that of the songs of that type that I’ve heard. I sang the verses, and a group of friends sang the chorus with me (I’d originally thought that others would pick up a few of the verses, but I pretty much got a chorus of “not it” when I brought that up, soooo okay). 😏

My friend Mysie (Mistress Margaret Malise de Kyrkyntolaghe) keeps referring to this piece as “Recognize,” so I guess that’s the title!
